Keep Fresh

Simple tips to store your coffee beans and enjoy every cup at its best.

Why aluminum cans?

You’ve probably noticed we’ve traded the standard plastic bag for a hermetically sealed aluminum can. It’s a bit different, but at Rlx, we believe the path to a perfect cup should be as smooth as the coffee itself.

We’ve tested every method—from glass to plastic—and nothing protects your beans like this. While plastic bags can let flavor slip away in just a month, our cans lock in those complex aromas for three months or more by blocking out the enemies of freshness: light and oxygen.

It’s also about peace of mind. Aluminum is lightweight, durable, and one of the most recyclable materials on the planet. It’s a win for your morning ritual and a win for the Earth. So go ahead, start the brew, and just Rlx. (Morning or evening... we don't judge.)

Is $aluminum > $plastic bag?

Yes! Compared to plastic bags, packaging in aluminum is at least 3x the cost. But, you may have also noticed that our prices are comparable to any other artisan roaster. How do we do it? Simple, we trim our margins slightly to cover the cost because quality is more important than a few cents more profit!

Freshness Longevity?

Beans stay fresh about two weeks one month after opening if stored properly in a cool, dark place. (A.i. based the two week timeframe on the standard for storing in plastic coffee bags... silly a.i.)

What to do once opened?

Whether your coffee comes in an aluminum can or plastic bag, we recommend transferring the beans into a dedicated, air-tight coffee storage container once opened (especially if it came in a plastic bag!). Any purpose-made coffee storage container should work well, but a well-sealed mason jar in a cool, dark spot is great too!
